Big Gay Werewolves, often abbreviated BGWs, are lycanthropes associated with mountains and forests in their werewolf form and with nightclubs and upscale retail establishments in their human form. Accounts of their existence combine the usual difficulties of identifying a werewolf with the less usual difficulty of determining whether an encounter was a sighting or an attempt to get a phone number.

Habitat and encounters

The familiar wilderness setting remains important to BGW accounts. Forests, mountains, and a suitably visible moon provide the traditional conditions for an appearance. Human-form encounters have a more social character, with nightclubs and shopping environments recurring in descriptions.

The two settings have produced a particularly persistent problem for observers: a creature capable of attracting considerable attention may still be difficult to identify. Someone can have met a Big Gay Werewolf without having established which parts of the description apply.

Awareness

The Big Gay Werewolves website promotes awareness of these creatures, collecting a brief account of their habitats and an enthusiastic assertion that they do, indeed, exist. Its presentation treats the possibility of an encounter as a cause for excitement.

That enthusiasm extends to people who identify with BGWs, know one, or simply wish them well. In this respect, awareness has a fairly welcoming admission policy.
